A film wholly produced by young expatriates of the nation, Nagasari explores the story of the personal lives of an Indonesian family in Canada as they attempt to live with the nuances and challenges associated by such a unique journey. A collaboration of the Indonesian community in Vancouver, British Columbia, from students to homemakers, the film attempts to illustrate the heritage of the family and the influences of the Canadian ‘cultural mosaic’, of a “journey of returning to the roots of your cultural upbringing”.
Nagasari won a count of accolades, including the 2013 Maya Awards for “Best Regional Film”, and its release was met with several rave reviews and extensive coverage from the domestic and international press. The motion picture is highlighted regularly in movie screenings with its Canadian premiere at Pacific Cinémathèque and a second show at the Vancity Theatre and consistently attracts substantial crowds since.
